Prof Alfred Hermida was invited by the Social Media Research Group at the Queensland University of Technology to share the preliminary results of his research with Candis Callison on #Idlenomore.

In his talk on November 29, 2013, called Hashtag Dissent: #Idlenomore Aboriginal Counter Narratives On Twitter, Hermida discussed how activists in Canada mobilised around the #Idlenomore hashtag and used Twitter to advance their message of dissent.

Initial analysis indicated a substantial presence of non-elite actors in the top 500 most influential voices on Twitter. However, institutional elites such as journalists from mainstream media organisations and celebrities were also highly influential in reframing or reinterpreting message through Twitter.
